About Louis Valenzuela

Louis Valenzuela is a working guitarist based in San Diego and can be seen playing throughout Southern California. Louis is a founding member of the Afrojazziacs, an Afro-Latin-Jazz-Punk-Funk band. Known for its versatility and cross-border appeal, the ensemble has played in Mexico often (Ensenada Jazz Festival, La Covacha). He is also a contributing composer to the group. The Afrojazziacs were nominated for Best World Music at the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. JuiceBox is a newer ensemble that is rapidly gaining attention throughout the region. The Soul-Funk band just put out their debut album which is also available on purple vinyl and will be releasing another recording soon.  Louis can be seen playing guitar throughout Southern California with this group led by Matthew Smith.  He has been featured in both programs of the Jazz Guitar Series at the Westgate Hotel, curated by Gilbert Castellanos. Other notable collaborations, performing and/or recording are: The B-Side Players, Dan Reagan (Marc Anthony, The Spanish Harlem Orchestra), Adrián Terrazas-González (The Mars Volta, T.R.A.M., JAZZTEC), Artyom Manukyan.  In addition to guitar, he also plays cuban tres with the Afrojazziacs and other ensembles, as well as oud with the Persian band Dornob. Louis holds a B.M. in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.
